An Expert Interview – Using Essential Oils Safely

Recently spoke with a leading Essential Oil specialist about safely applying essential oils, since current studies surrounding essential oils continue to develop a greater knowledge of application methods which should be used. Three applications methods are safe when used appropriately, including aromatic, topical, and internal methods. One or multiple application methods may be utilized for a range of physical and emotional wellness applications. It is possible to use a single essential oil or a complex blend in one of the three methods.

Aromatic In this method, essential oils are quickly absorbed by the human smell receptors which are a direct link to the limb system which is part of the brain that supports the function of smell, emotions, behaviors, and memory all done via olfactory nerve. Certain essential oils induce invigorating and uplifting effects, and some are calming. Essential oils used aromatically will not require a special diffusing device. The selection of one that uses cold air or water is ideal.Supplementary aromatic uses for Essential Oils:· Applying essential oil on a cotton ball placed in an air vent of the one’s vehicle· In a glass spray bottle with water which is mist over linens, carpet, and furniture· Essential oil added to the laundry on dryer sheets· Essential oil used in the household as a surface cleaner.

Topically Essential oils easily penetrate the skin, due to the low molecular weights of essential oils and they are lipid soluble. Once essential oils are absorbed, there are several methods such as massage increase the blood flow in the area improving the distribution throughout the body. The use of a carrier oil such as Fractionated Coconut Oil to dilute the more potent essential oils and to decrease developing skin sensitivity especially on the young or sensitive skin which is very advisable. The dilution ratio is typically one drop of essential oil to the drops of the carrier oil.It is advisable, to use small doses throughout the day rather than a large single dose. Start with the smallest (lowest) dose (1-2 drops) of essential oils with or without a carrier oil applied topically repeating every 4-6 hours as needed. Since all individuals are unique based on size, age, and overall health status – caution or consultation with a physician is advice.Areas of the Body that the Essential Oils receive the most Benefits Forehead and temples Neck Chest and abdomen Arms, legs, bottom of feet Other Methods of Topical Application Several drops of essential oils in a warm bath Using a hot or cold compress towel that has been soaking in water, then adding essential oils then applying to the desired area Adding essential oil to a lotion or moisturizer then apply to the skin Sensitive Areas to Avoid Facial areas near and around the eyes Eyes and inner ears Skin that is injured, broken or damaged

Internal important * * First make sure the essential oil being used is identified that one may take it internally and that the essential oil is of Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.

Certain essential oils have a history of culinary use and can utilize as a dietary supplement which supports a variety of health conditions. Just think when adding fresh basil leaves to spaghetti, drink a cup of peppermint tea, or as my granddaughter loves to sprinkle cinnamon on her oatmeal, this is the consumption of volatile aromatic essential oil compounds. In addition to essential oils flavoring the properties of food, they contribute to many health benefits. When essential oils are in the concentrated form, they are used for supplements for targeted and potent health benefits. Internal use is an effective and safe method of application of the physiologic processes of the body.

Ingesting essential oils, directly enter the bloodstream through the gastrointestinal tract transporting throughout the rest of the human body. Essential oils being a lipid soluble readily transported to all the organs of the human body, including the brain. Then essential oils are metabolized by the liver and other organs and then excreted.Essential oil composition is highly complex, constituting a unique set of biochemical properties that react with cells and organs in numerous ways with the body being able to handle appropriate doses of essential oils. It is important to follow labeling recommendations, and other professional guidelines should be strictly followed to avoid toxicity. (Always follow your doctors’ recommendations.)

Internal Application – Effective Methods Use essential oils in recipes in baking and cooking to replace fresh or dried herbs and spices. Recently my daughter uses lemon essential oil to prepare a lemon—blueberry cheesecake it was delicious. Always start with a minimal amount, essential oils are much more potent than dried or fresh herbs and spices. Since essential oils are powerful use a toothpick to administer the essential oil rather than drops Combine water, milk, tea, or smoothies with essential oils to drink. Purchase veggie capsules and add a few essential oils to the capsule or add a small amount of the essential oil to applesauce or yogurt. Marie, IPC Wellness Advocate, Blogger, Author#Essentialoils #doTERRA #Wellness #natural-u.net #essentialoils #wellnessadvocate
